We understand that getting storage for the first time can be a bit confusing - that's why we've included these FAQs for your viewing below. If the answer to your question isn't below, then please don't hesitate to contact us.

Merthyr Self Storage offers flexible storage for domestic and business customers. We provide clean, dry, purpose built storage spaces - access to which is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Your rented space (which could be anything from a small locker to a room) is locked with your own padlock - ensuring that only you have access to your things. And you don't even have to worry if you don't have your own padlock - we sell them right here, along with a full range of other packing materials, on-site and online.

How much does it cost to rent space from Merthyr Self Storage?

The cost depends upon the size of space you require. To work this out you can contact us here, or telephone us on 01685 377444 and speak to a member of our staff. You can then get a quote on a room of the right size. At Merthyr Self Storage we have lockers ranging from 25sq. ft. to over 400sq. ft. - and prices start from as little as £5 a week.


What is included in the price - and are there any hidden extras?

The price you are quoted by our staff includes your storage charge, rates, service charges, utility bills and maintenance costs. You will need a padlock to secure your room.

Do I pay weekly or monthly?

We invoice customers on a four weekly (28 day) basis, payable in advance. 

Do you offer any discounts?

We run regular offers for both new and existing customers so it's always worth checking with us.

How can I pay for my space?

We offer a number of payment options including credit card, debit card, cheque and direct debit. Cash will only be accepted for payments after your initial payment when you move in.

How often can I access my space - and how much will it cost?

We offer unlimited access to your goods seven days a week 365 days a year, so you can add or remove items from your space whenever you require. 

Do I have to pre-book a space?

No, but we do advise that you do because we have a high-turnover of rooms and we don't want you to be disappointed.

Can I move in today?

Yes, a member of our staff will fill in our simple storage contract with you, and then you can move your goods in straight away. You will need to bring with you a suitable proof of identity (a passport); proof of address (a utility bill); and a means of payment.

What are your opening hours?

We are open Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 8:00pm and Saturday and Sunday 8:00am to 5:30pm. You are able to access your goods in-between these hours. Just telephone us in advance.

Do I have to sign a lease?

No you don't. You sign a straightforward Storage contract prior to 'moving in' to your space. Our staff will talk you through the contents of this simple agreement to make sure you understand the key points of what you're committing to.

How do people get their things to Merthyr Self Storage?

If your own vehicle isn't suitable for transporting your things to Merthyr Self Storage, we also offer free van hire* for customers moving their goods in with us. If you do choose to drive then there's ample, free on-site parking.

How big are your spaces?

Our rooms start at 25sq. ft. gradually work their way up to over 240sq. ft.

Can I transfer to another room if I find I have too much or too little space?

You are welcome to move to another size room at any time, depending on your storage requirements (and, of course, the availability of other room sizes at the store).

How high are the ceilings at your storage spaces?

Our rooms are 10ft high.

Are the storage spaces heated?

Our rooms are not heated. However, the temperature within our stores remains fairly constant, notwithstanding the season. Our modern buildings are very well insulated so that our stores are never too hot or unduly cold. 

What sort of security do you have?

Merthyr Self Storage incorporates extensive security features, including:

  • 24 hour Digital CCTV located both inside and outside the main building, monitoring all entrances and exits.
  • A sophisticated alarm system for the building and storage space.
  • A fire and smoke detection system
  • Monitored security system able to react to any alarm activations

What is the minimum time I can store with you?

Our minimum storage period is seven days.

How long can I stay?

You are welcome to stay for a week, month, year - or for as long as you need.

Do I have to give you notice to leave?

We ask that you give us 14 days notice.

Are there any restrictions on what I can store?

You can store almost anything at Merthyr Self Storage. The only exceptions are;

  • Living items, such as animals and plants.
  • Hazardous materials, such as flammable liquids and explosives.
  • Items that could decompose, such as exposed foodstuffs.
  • Unauthorised or illegal goods, such as drugs or firearms.

Can I buy boxes and packing materials from Merthyr Self Storage, and do you deliver?

Yes, we sell an extensive range of packing materials from boxes to bubble wrap. Packing materials can be bought in person from our stores or you can order online and have them delivered to your door.

Is there assistance at the store if I have a problem?

There will always be a trained member of staff available seven days a week during reception opening times.
